DOWNSIDE PROTECTION
Cтратегия хеджирования риска волатильности и снижения стоимости инвестиционного портфеля в случае снижения цены базовых активов. Эта стратегия реализуется с помощью опционов или специальных финансовых инструментов.

Downside protection is a strategy implemented in options to hedge the risk of volatility and lower or eliminate the losses of a portfolio in case the price of the underlying asset decreases.

Downside protection on an investment occurs when the investor or fund manager uses techniques to prevent a decrease in the value of the investment.
Investors in these companies are given convertible preferred shares that have both downside protection (via seniority) and upside potential (via an option to convert into common shares).

Three forms of market downside protection— put options, variable annuities with a guarantee, and asset reallocation—each have their place, but investors should understand that all usually come with the price of reduced expected portfolio returns.
