Intellectual property, or simply IP, consists of creations of the mind that are protected by law. IP can be registered in any one of the following three methods: copyright, trademark or patent. IP also includes trade secrets, which are not registered but are protected if stolen via unauthorized access or in violation of an NDA. Trade secrets might include assets such as customer lists, or any formula, practice, process, or method, that is not generally known by others and that a business uses to obtain an economic advantage.
